The introduction of the internet in the early ’90s opened up a world of possibilities for society to discover. 30 years later, we are still discovering, still inventing, still creating beautiful moments in history that will be documented forever.

This constant development is especially true when we take into the concept of website design. Designing a website has developed from complex code and algorithms to software such as WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace where creating websites requires no prior skills at all. 

Being able to add photos, text, and products to a website is the easy part. We have seen implemented since the dawn of the internet those 30 years ago. With 43% of the world’s population having a smartphone, having a website that is mobile-friendly is essential. In today’s modern age of web design, that is a lot easier than it used to be. However, having mobile sites that feel like they were made for mobile. Having a website feel like it is still attached to the brand while providing a completely fresh, modern experience is a challenge that we embrace as creative designers.

In my eyes, communication is the most crucial aspect of designing a website. People want information and they want it fast. They want it easy but with exclusively. They want it short but with lots of detail. Communication can be a complex arrangement of data, information or sometimes, lack thereof. So for something as simple yet complex as it is, what are creative ways we can communicate a brand as efficiently and effectively as possible without boring the user.

Throughout the years, we have seen digital design go from Mark Zuckerberg creating Facebook on his college computer to what it is today. A complex equation of design, strategy, and innovation that is reflected through the creative ways a designer can showcase all these various aspects.
